Director of Research

Jason is a biotechnology research analyst, investor, and strategic advisor with more than 25 years of experience spanning pharmaceutical development, Wall Street research, institutional investing, and healthcare capital markets. In addition to his work in biotechnology and finance, Mr. Kolbert works part-time as a robotics, engineering, and fabrication instructor, teaching students hands-on problem solving, design, fabrication, and applied engineering skills. Mr. Kolbert began his career as a pharmaceutical chemist before joining Schering-Plough in Japan, where he worked in international product and marketing management. During his tenure, he helped guide INTRON-A through the Japanese regulatory and commercial-launch process, contributing to a product franchise that ultimately generated more than $1 billion in revenue. After returning to the United States, Mr. Kolbert transitioned to Wall Street as a biotechnology research analyst at Salomon Smith Barney. He subsequently spent seven years as a biotechnology analyst at Citigroup and seven years managing biotechnology investments at Susquehanna International Group. He later served as Executive Managing Director and Head of Healthcare Research at Maxim Group, where he built and led the firm’s healthcare research franchise. Over the course of his career, Mr. Kolbert has analyzed hundreds of biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical companies across oncology, immunology, antiviral medicine, rare diseases, neuroscience, precision medicine, and gene and cell therapy. His experience across pharmaceutical development, sell-side equity research, institutional investing, portfolio management, and capital markets gives him a distinctive perspective on the relationship among scientific innovation, clinical development, regulatory strategy, corporate governance, valuation, financing, and shareholder value. Mr. Kolbert is a recognized voice in the healthcare investment community. He has appeared regularly on CNBC and has been quoted by Barron’s and other leading financial publications for his perspectives on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and the capital markets’. Kolbert holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the State University of New York at New Paltz and an MBA from the University of New Haven. He holds or has held FINRA series SIE, 24, 87, 86, 7, 63 licenses.
